We had the opportunity to chat with Kevin Phillips, a resident artist at RemainReal Fine Art, to discuss his solo exhibition, “Singularity.” Running throughout August, this exhibition is a deep exploration of the intersection between human emotion and technological advancement. Kevin’s work is known for its bold color theory and emotionally charged scenes, and “Singularity” promises to be a compelling visual journey.
Kevin’s Creative Process
Kevin’s artistic journey is both personal and profound.
“I’ve always been fascinated by portraiture, color theory, and how technology impacts the human psyche,” he shares. His process involves creating figures with surfaces that appear otherworldly—made of chrome, liquid, or stone—symbolizing the blend of human and technological elements.
“These stylistic choices are my way of depicting transformation,” Kevin explains. “I use repeated symbols like triangles and circles to represent diverse perspectives and dimensions, inviting viewers to explore different interpretations.”
Kevin’s work often explores themes of dissociation and derealization, using dynamic imagery to draw viewers into emotionally potent scenes.
“Art has always been my means of communication,” he says. “It helps me find confidence and express complex ideas through visual narratives.”
Where Art and Science Meet
In “Singularity,” Kevin pushes the boundaries of his art by integrating new elements and techniques.
“This exhibition is inspired by the concept of singularity—both in science and AI,” he explains. “It’s about how these worlds come together and influence human emotion.”
The show features portraits with chrome-like surfaces and blackhole shapes, representing a metaphorical singularity where human identity merges with technology. Kevin’s use of bold colors and emotionally charged scenes creates a narrative that invites viewers to contemplate their roles in a digital reality.
“Each piece is a point of convergence,” he says. “It’s more than just an exhibition; it’s a dialogue about how we evolve in a technological world.”
About Kevin Phillips
Kevin Phillips has been a dedicated full-time artist based in Fort Collins since 2020. His journey began with a deep personal loss when his mother, Lorri, a talented artist, passed away when he was 19.
“Her artistic passion is where I attribute much of my own,” he shares.
It was after her death that Kevin decided to pursue art more seriously, eventually transitioning to a full-time career during the pandemic. Kevin’s work explores the blending of human and technological elements through dynamic imagery and repeated geometric symbols. His pieces can be found in private collections across all 50 states and internationally, reflecting his growing influence and unique artistic vision.
Final Thoughts
As Kevin prepared for his exhibition at our Denver art gallery, he reflected on the evolution of his work.
“The challenge is to capture the essence and emotion of what is being uncovered,” he says. “Singularity” invites us all to step into Kevin’s world and consider the profound impact of technology on our identities.
