Our Teachers
Laura Gillen
Watercolor, Acrylic, & Linocut Printmaking
I recently moved to the Denver area from Illinois, where I was represented by The Gilbert Gallery in Urbana. I have shown my work all over the country and have worked in several different professions. I was a carpenter in Illinois , a Scenic artist and illustrator in NY City, and taught art to children in Florida, Pittsburgh, New York and Illinois. I received my BFA in Painting from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh. My favorite medium is oil on wood, but I also paint in watercolor and acrylic and do linoleum block prints. My subject matter is vignettes and landscapes that speak to me. I tend to work on a small scale, which invokes the idea of a keepsake or “devotional”, commemorating a moment in time.

Olivia has always loved collage and enjoys creating collages out of thrifted frames and magazines in the spirit of using secondhand materials to create. She is eager to share her love of the medium as a teacher at RemainReal Fine Art. Olivia also enjoys traveling, camping, thrifting, perusing art galleries, participating in creative collaborations and attending live music events and fashion shows.
Chester Rhodes
Acrylic, Watercolor, Linocut Printmaking
Chester Rhodes is a queer, transgender artist based in Denver. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, he began expressing his love of art at an early age. His style has evolved from photorealistic portraiture to colorful and abstracted translations of different subjects; ranging from figurative art to landscape paintings. Following three years of living in Brooklyn, New York, Chester settled in Colorado to further explore his art career within the awe-inspiring beauty of the Rocky Mountains. From the beginning of his journey to now, he continues to make art that speaks to his queer identity and experience.
